Here we go! I am excited to set some goals for myself today, although when I start looking at all the things I want (and need) to do, it is quite daunting. I need to heed Lisa’s advice and not be unrealistic, because nothing is worse than setting yourself up for failure before you begin. After considering this wise advice, I have come up with 3 goals.
1) Change Beverage Habits a. Drink more water – I know I don’t drink enough, and even though there is water in beer and wine, I am aware this does not count. The measure for this is that I actually drink water and record it. I would like to drink the recommended 64 oz. of water/day. This leads me to the second part of this goal… b. Drink less alcohol – This will be a hard one, but I know that in order for me to be successful in the long run, I will have to nip this one in the bud right of the bat. The measure for this will be looking at my bank account and realizing I have more money. 2) Move More – Exercise at least 3 hours a week to start. Hopefully I can do more, but I need to be realistic. If my goal was to spend at least 3 hours a week at kids sporting games, I would triple my goal. Spring is tough to find time at my house, but I will give it my best. The only alternative would be to borrow Hermione’s time travel gizmo, and something tells me that’s not going to happen. 3) My non-fitness goal is to get my house in order and get organized. My mother would die if she walked into my house and opened drawers and closets. I need to get this stuff organized, get rid of what I don’t need, and get rich off of a garage sale. The measurement will be opening up closets and being able to shut the door without having to lean against all the stuff falling out.
I think this is a good start, and I hope I have set realistic goals for myself. I might need to add another goal as ultimately, I would like to lose 35 lbs by the end of the year, and I hope to lose 15 by the end of this 3 month challenge.
Day 3 - So far, off to a slow start, although I am drinking more water and I have had 10,000 steps every day this week, so that is good. I even push-mowed the lawn a few days ago! Need to work on my nutrition. A trip to the grocery store is in order. Eating out is killing me. I packed my lunch to day and ate breakfast at home, which is a good start. I plan to walk today at lunch and maybe when I get home. It is also a nice afternoon to garden, and although it might now be strenuous exercise, all that squatting and bending has got to be good for me. Plus, there is nothing like the feeling of freshly tilled dirt between the toes...
Okay, day 3 & 4. Did pretty good yesterday. Walked 1.6 miles at lunch, planted a bunch of stuff in the garden, cleaned out my sons drawers and got started on my daughter. Logged about 13,000 steps, which is decent enough for me. Slept good for a change. Eating was so-so... Water so-so, Beer was cold and wet - told you it was going to be the hard one... I did pack my lunch though and made fish for dinner, so actually food was pretty good.
Today was sports-mom day. 9 - 12 lacrosse game, 1 - 3 softball game, and 5 -8 baseball game, including the ever dreaded concession stand duty. Forgot to wear my fitbit thingy today, so I'm not sure how many steps I walked, but I refuse to sit at any game, so I am pretty sure I got my 10,000 in. Breakfast could have been better, lunch at moe's, but I think I did good there, and took my kids out for ice cream for dinner. Obviously not the best choice, but they played hard all day, it was late, and everyone was sick of the concession stand diet by then.
Tomorrow will be a great day though. We are going hiking in the southern Adirondacks. We are hiking Hadley Mtn, which my family has done before. It is a great early season hike, and I am sure it will still kick my butt, but I can't think of a better way to spend the day. It will be a beautiful one, so do something outside and enjoy it! I wish I could be there for the butt-kicking by Lisa, but I am sure there will be plenty of more opportunities for that!
Shelley....WOW you have been quite active! Good for you, sounds like your really off to a good start. Keep it up you got this girl. By the way I love Moe's I get the salad and extra guac every time. Here's to a great week!!:)
