  1. OK, the third time is the charm? So my first goal is tied into a goal my niece established for herself. She was recently deployed to Afghanistan and is going to run 500 miles in the 5 months she is away. That's 100 miles each month. I don't think my old bones will hold up to running so I am modifying my 100/month to jog/walk.

Goal two is to improve my diet to lower my blood pressure.
Goal three is to stop swearing. For those that know me well, the F bomb pops out of my mouth like the jack-in-the-box pops up when you wind him up.

Goal 1 will be measured with the Nike + app and I will post on FB.

Goal 2 will also be measured by an app I need to try both "myfitnesspal" and "fitbit" to see which will track my sodium intake. I also will record my pressure weekly.

Goal 3 will be measured by reports from friends. My co workers cant wait!

  2. Ok, let's try this again. Starting at 11:57pm so technically, it is still May 1. Better late than never.

    Goals:

    1) lose 15 lbs. The scale has never been friendly, so a moderate weight loss goal is ideal for me.
Measurement: the scale of course with attention to how clothes are fitting and percentage of body fat. I am a fan of multiple markers of weight loss.

    2) Add a different activity to my fitness regimen. I am a huge fan of Zumba and have started jogging but need more stretching and muscle lengthening activities (that are easier on my joints).
Measurement: add yoga or pilates (or like) activity 2x per week in addition to Zumba and/or running.

    3) by end of 90 days, I will have a manuscript ready to submit for publication. One of my biggest regrets is that I stopped writing and using advanced statistics once I got my degree. Publishing from my dissertation is the first step for me. Proofreaders and writing buddies wanted.

    1. I am also trying to publish a few manuscripts. Mine are children's books, but I would love to help you out if you are looking for someone to proofread etc. No luck on my end yet, but I keep trying!

    2. Shelley,

Thanks for agreeing to be a proof reader. You may be sorry :-( On a different note, I have a secret dream of writing a children's book focusing on celebrating diversity and inclusion. I would love to help you as well. I am excited. I feel like a writing session may be in order.

  3. Crystal, your goals seems so sensible! I definitely like the third one because it seems so you for some reason.

  4. My first goal is strong, but certainly ate more cheese than expected today and swore using "minor words" (hell and damn followed by shit because I lapsed. I clearly will not repeat the words in writing again.

  5. Maggie,

Focusing on the positive, I heard not one swear word from you last night.

I love your first goal. It’s practical and inspired. I am a slow runner. Just rebooted my couch to 5K app, but happy to jog along for as long as I can on one of your outings.

Regarding the second goal, I have used myfitness pal. I like it because and will need to reboot that as well. I think it tracks sodium but you may need to customize it to do so. I hate food journaling… let me reiterate… hate it. But myfitness pal makes it manageable. I love that I can scan a label and poof, food is recorded. It also syncs with my onbody monitoring device (which you guessed it, I need to reboot). Happy to talk more about it if you like.

  6. Reboot could be our motto! I do like myfitnesspal and after a week or so of using it I should know what I need to concentrate on. Jogging or even walking with someone always makes it seem less of a chore. Do you go out at a set time? or day? I'm out usually before work (work for me is 10 or 11)

  7. Morning ladies, I just wanted to say good luck with your goals I think they are great! We are all in this together and supporting each other. I agree Maggie I think once you set your mind to something you can achieve it. xo

  8. I love this team! Crystal, I truly suck at statistics, but can read for grammar, spelling, and comprehension (to a point), so if you need proofers, I'd love to help! Maggie, it's not one of my goals, but my blue streaks are known throughout family history. So, as a show of support, I'll watch what comes out of my mouth carefully when hanging out with you! As an afterthought, Crystal, if your hand starts giving you trouble, I also love to type! Just say the word!

    1. MGM,

Thanks for the support. Inspires me to get started on the writing goal.

  9. I am also using MFP and Fitbit, so maybe we could be "friends" on there to help keep each other motivated there too!

  10. Shelley, I like the idea of adding friends to both. Both require FB or email addresses. I don't know how it works, but some of my friends who are on FB and Fitbit, required email to connect. My email is magbrou1@nycap.rr.com.

  11. Our first week is almost done! And the good news it there are almost 12 more weeks to "getter done" My first goal is going so well, I'll be happy when I can jog more that 3-4 miles at a time so I don't have to jog or walk every day. This body will need to rest ocasionally.

It takes 6 weeks to form a habit (or so I've heard). So I am patient with myself in the other two goals. The funny thing that happens every time I swear is I swear in annoyance! Two for one!

How do we turn in the fitness test? Or do we post it on our page?

Mags - oh, Mags...I don't think I could live without my favorite little f word...I married a Sailor...so I don't think I could even effectively communicate with my love if I gave up that word...best wishes on accomplishing that goal - the rest of them, too...

    1. You surely made me laugh! It has been tricky since it is my favorite word! Each day there are slip-ups and then I swear when I realize that! Now that my daughter is visiting (and I taught her too well) the struggle is greater.

  13. Oh - and in my next life, I think I want to be the person behind those evil little letters you have to recreate before being allowed to post...the last one I had to recreate was Dr of Insiff. I don't know what that means but I think I just got promoted. ;-)

  14. 25 miles (more walked than ran) in 8 days, that's on target. I'm ok with walking more than running.
The diet diary has been halted while my daughter is here. How do you measure a bite of hanger steak, a bite of pork chop, two bites of sweetened gnocchi with a dab of whipped cream? I could try to figure out my own meal and add a couple hundred for samples, but celebratory meals are difficult. Not mentioning the wine at all!

Language alteration going as expected: A little of this and a little of that. You know what I'm saying.

  15. 34 miles. Thank you David for walking with me these last few days. I'm pretty sure I would have stayed in on the couch. Such a good son.
